From Gallo-Italic of Sicily Daiduni/Dadù, supposedly derived from an unattested Vulgar Latin *Aidon(em) – from which are derived Italian Aidone and Sicilian Aiduni – leading often to a Ancient Greek source referring to ᾍδης (Hāídēs) or\nἌδωνις (Ádōnis). The initial ⟨D⟩ could have yielded because of a now lost liquid article l' (“the”) placed in front of the toponym, then eventually hypercorrected by the non-Sicilian speakers. Cf. the demonym Aedui, for more. Compare Italian Aidone.",
